Descriptive statistics:
deals with the concise and effective presentation of the data of a statistical survey. (the other broad category is the inferential statistics). -> EXTRACTION AND CALCULATION OF GRAPHICS AND STATISTICAL MEASURES
WHEN DO WE USE IT? -> FOR THE DESCRIPTION OF A SAMPLE
(NOT OF THE ENTIRE POPULATION – SOMETIMES HAPPENS (E.G. CENSUS, ELECTION RESULTS) AND THE STATISTICS THAT ARE CALCULATED THEN ARE CALLED PARAMETERS).
STATISTICAL DATA NEEDS TO BE SUMMARIZED
WHY? -> IT REVEALS WAYS OF DATA CHANGE -> WE CAN UNDERSTAND THEIR SOURCE OF ORIGIN
HOW? -> WITH TABLES OR GRAPHICS
THE WAY IN WHICH DATA IS CLASSIFIED IS CALLED DATA DISTRIBUTION.
